  THE CLEVELAND APL HAS BEEN SAVING LIVES SINCE 1913

The Cleveland Animal Protective League's mission is to foster compassion and end animal suffering.  Incorporated in 1913, we are an independent, nonprofit humane society located in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood.

As a 501(c)(3) agency, we are not funded or controlled by any government or national animal welfare organization. Our animal shelter, services, and programs are made available through fundraising, donations, foundation and corporate support, and service fees.

We are committed to 100 percent placement of adoptable animals and envision a time when every friendly, healthy, homeless animal in our community can be cared for until a new family is found.

The Cleveland APL provides shelter to homeless animals relinquished by their guardians, animals that are rescued from abuse or neglect, and stray or abandoned cats.  Stop in and visit the many animals we help and have available for adoption - make one of our friends one of your very best friends!

OUR MISSION:
To foster compassion and
end animal suffering.

Vision Statement

The Cleveland Animal Protective League envisions a society in which:

  • Animals are valued, treated with dignity and respect, and protected from cruelty and neglect;
  • Every companion animal-in-need has a chance for rehabilitation and re-homing;
  • The human-animal bond is cherished and supported; and
  • Every pet is wanted.

Core Values

Compassion

We treat animals and people with respect, empathy, and kindness.  We listen and respond to the needs of people who surrender animals to us, adopt from us, report abuse to us, use our services, support us, work for us, volunteer for us, and to other animal welfare organizations that turn to us for help.  We believe every life we touch should be treated with dignity.

Commitment

We believe that every life has value and worth. We stand resolute in maintaining an environment of transparency, accountability, and high ethical and professional standards in working to fulfill every aspect of our mission. An unwavering focus on excellence and good stewardship of life, resources, and opportunity guide everything we do.

Advocacy

We are committed to being the voice of animals.  We believe that collaboration, education, and active, impactful participation in influencing positive change on behalf of animals are the cornerstones of elevating their place in society and promoting the value of their lives.

Leadership

We are committed to working with the public and our colleagues in the animal welfare community to provide innovative solutions to the challenges animals face.  We believe in leading by example and demand excellence at every level of our organization.  We continually strive to be a leader in our field at the local, state and national levels by seeking and following a visionary and progressive path as advocates for both animals and people.
