We adopted "Wally" (changed his name to Wall-E after our son's favorite robot! LOL!) a few months ago. The boys, both father and son, had been whining for at least 2 years about getting a dog. Me, I am a cat person and wasn't keen on having a barking, jumping spaz of an animal in the house at all. Especially with the 3 cats we've already got!
I have to tell you Wall-E is a most spectacular dog though! He does not bark, save for if something is REALLY wrong around the house. He has had NO housetraining accidents. He doesn't beg at the table or go after any sort of "people food."
Our son has Asperger's Syndrome and is prone to escape and wander as well as sleepwalk. Within mere days of Wall-E being here he would "alert" when our boy went on a nighttime sojourn, coming to wake us and running back and forth between us and where our son would go. From the first day Wall-E would sleep at the foot of our son's bed or in his dog bed next to the boy. Wall-E is GREAT with children of all ages and doesn't mind being rolled on, cuddled and "herding" the kids in the yard.
He is also wonderful with the elderly. I take care of a woman with severe arthritis and dementia. She LOVES dogs and when I bring Wall-E over to see her, he hops right up next to her and licks her face. You should see the smile that elicits! He will lay down next to her while I bathe and dress her, and if she gets upset, he'll put his paw on her hand so very gently.
After the first few weeks he understood that the cats were neither toys nor animals that needed herding, and they all get along quite famously! He even brings his toys and bones as gifts and presents them to the cats. He looks confused when they drink out of his water dish but has never once gotten upset about it.
I have included a few pics of Wall-E so you can see how well he is doing. As our son says "We went to look at something and it was puppies! Wall-E was right there waiting for us and he is the PERFECT pup for our house!"
And he is. We love him! Even though I am still NOT a "dog person," I am very, very much a Wall-E person! We are all so happy to have him!
Thanks for saving him for us!
