Jenna's Story - Love Has No Borders!

<< Back

JennaIn April, 2008, our beloved Hershey, adopted from the Cleveland APL 8 years ago, passed away after a 5 month battle against lymphoma. Our house was just too empty, lonely and sad.  On May 24, 2008, we adopted Jenna after falling in love with her pretty puppy face on the APL website. But we had no idea about Jenna’s real story.

The APL staff gave us additional information that indicated Jenna was actually from Virginia. I found the name of the animal shelter down there and the animal shelter manager and wrote her a letter to let her know what became of the sad eyed puppy with the long droopy ears. She told us that not much was known about Jenna other than she was picked up by Animal Control as a stray and estimated to be about 11 weeks old. With their shelter overcrowded, Jenna had run out of time and was headed for euthanasia. But the shelter workers had fallen in love with her sweet, affectionate, and loving personality and found a spot for her on the PetsMart Rescue Waggin’ which gives animals a second chance by relocating them to shelters with more room and greater chance of adoption. And that is how Jenna came to be at the Cleveland APL.

When we first brought her home, she was nothing but skin and bones with patchy hair on her sides from a skin condition. We also found she had pneumonia which a course of antibiotics thankfully cleared up. Now at 4-1/2 months, Jenna is a strong, gorgeous dog, lean, long-legged and weighing close to 40 pounds. She has beautiful, expressive eyes and is a warm russet color. She is a handful, but already is house trained, walks nicely on a leash (until she sees another dog or person), and knows how to sit, stay, come, lie down, and shake. A recent DNA Breed Identification test showed her to have Treeing Walker, Bluetick, and English Coonhounds in her breeding.

Thanks APL for another wonderful member added to our home and family!
