It’s Friday and that means we’re back with our world famous blog! Well more like Kobe’s back since the Ozzman is off somewhere snoozing again!
Here at the APL we see a lot of animals who have been abused and neglected. This week I wanted to tell you about their heroes…
The APL employs three Humane Investigators, Chief Jed, Officer Rob, and Officer Lisa. Around here, we like to call them “Cleveland’s Own Animal Cops!” Our Humane Investigators respond to complaints of animals being abused, starved, abandoned, exposed to the elements, or who need veterinary treatment. The City of Cleveland also relies on our services to assist with cases of cat hoarding and overpopulation.
Our Animal Cops are on the street seven days a week! In 2009 they investigated nearly 1,500 reports of animal cruelty and rescued 528 animals from cruelty or neglect. Oh and guess how many miles the drove last year???? 34,893! What most people don’t
realize is everything they do is funded solely by donations. The APL receives no government funding of any sort to investigate animal cruelty.
You (yes you!) can help our officers! To report a suspected case of animal neglect or cruelty, call our cruelty hotline at 216-377-1630 and provide the information listed below. Sharing your contact information is necessary for the safety of our officers and will also help to ensure a quick response. All calls and reports of abuse remain strictly confidential.
Here is what they need to know:
- Your name and call back number.
- Street address, number and street, of residence or location of the alleged violation.
- Accurate description of the problem and animal(s) involved.
Improper care of animals, including lack of sufficient food, water, shelter and veterinary treatment, as defined by Ohio Revised Code 959.13 and 959.131, is against the law and may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of law!
This is really important stuff because we think all animals should have the love and care we do. But if they don’t and they are in a bad situation and are scared or hurt, the best people to see are Chief Jed, Officer Lisa and Officer Rob. They are our heroes and Ozzy and I want to give them a hearty paws up and say “thank
you” for all they do to help animals who are less fortunate than us!
Until next time…
Love and purrs,
Kobe and Ozzy
